About the Exibition
A/P II and Tangibles III is an exhibition curated by Priyasri Patodia presenting young emerging artists working with printmaking, sculpture and installation. The show features artists from the batch of 2009-2010 M.S. University Baroda who are currently working at the AQ@Priyasri Artist Studio Baroda. The exhibition includes Anjali Goel, Deepak Mahakul, Gajanan, Kanika Shah, Naini Arora, Rachana Badrakia, Rakesh Rana, Sumedh Kumar, and Tarun Gajjar.
The focal concept of the show is to highlight the vitality of mediums of printmaking and sculpture, and artists who have chosen them as their primary medium of expression. While each artist draws inspiration from distinct personal and cultural contexts, their practices resonate the everyday life, materiality, and the shifting meanings of objects.
We see diverse practices like Anjali Goel’s semi-surreal prints that weave images of nature and everyday drama transforming them into commentary dreamscapes; or Kanika Shah’s narrative woodcuts and etchings that combine self-portraits and her shifting surroundings. With sculptural and installative works like Mahakul who projects natural cycles and continuity through symbolic motifs; or Badrakia who uses metaphor by employing objects such as beehives, umbrellas, threads and stones to speak of materialism, shelter and the complex roles of women in society.
Together these practices highlight the ingenuity of tactile and process-driven mediums in age increasingly dominated by digital tools. AP II and Tangibles III is a showcase of emerging talents who are negotiating tradition, innovation and contemporary life.
