About the Exibition
Akbar Padamsee, an artist who defies categorization, occupies a singular experimental space in Indian modern art. Often referred to as an avant-garde visionary, Padamsee’s work resists being confined to any one period or style.
Renowned theorist Homi Bhabha describes Padamsee’s creative process as one that begins "in the middle", a revolutionary concept in itself. His work exhibits a cyclical, non-linear notion of time, where beginnings and endings converge. In the Metascapes, for instance, painted surfaces hold immense formal weight, appearing not as skin, but as the very structure of the landscape itself, glacially moving toward the horizon.
This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to engage with the latest phase of Padamsee’s artistic journey, where material, time, and perception coalesce into a deeply contemplative visual language. His recent oils continue to expand the language of painting, affirming his place as one of India’s most profound and enduring modernists.
