About the Exibition

AQ@Priyasri Part II continues the celebration of Baroda as a vibrant, ever-evolving hub of contemporary Indian art. Baroda has long been a breeding ground for diverse artistic movements and is home to a thriving creative community that embraces artists from across India, making it a “United States of India” for art.

This exhibition showcases artists who have made Baroda their home, contributing to the city’s reputation as a nurturing ground for experimentation, exchange, and mentorship. Many have connections with AQ@Priyasri, an art center in Baroda that offers studios and support to emerging talent. Nearly 40% of the participating artists have direct links to this center, which plays a crucial role in helping young artists develop their unique visual language during the early, often unsupported, stages of their careers.

Baroda's influence extends far beyond its borders, more than half the artists featured in auctions or prestigious collections have either studied, lived, or worked in the city. It is home to premier institutions like M.S. University’s Faculty of Fine Arts and along with NID in Ahmedabad, it reinforces Gujarat’s position as a powerhouse of creativity.

The Big Baroda Show also bridges the gap between recent graduates and the established art fraternity, offering emerging artists a rare platform to exhibit locally. It encourages mentorship, fosters dialogue, and cultivates a sense of community across socio-economic, cultural, and regional lines.

Curated with support from artist Jagannath Mohapatra, originally from Odisha, the exhibition is a testament to Baroda’s inclusive and dynamic spirit. The vision is to make this an annual initiative, promoting more art centers, patrons, and opportunities for India’s next generation of masters.
