About the Exibition
Basic Instinct - Art For Welfare For Animals is a unique initiative that brings together celebrated masters and contemporary artists in support of the wellbeing of animals through art. Each participating artist has created a work in the intimate format of an A4 sheet, transforming works that are more accessible and suitable for urban spaces. Masters such as K.G. Subramanyan, Jyoti Bhatt, Jyotsna Bhatt, and Vasudevan Akkhitam join hands with a younger generation of practitioners, each contributing works that depict animals in symbolic, playful, or contemplative ways.
The exhibition highlights the possibility of bringing works by various masters of Indian contemporary art which are created specially into small format paintings and into one’s home at an accessible price. An exhibition created for the welfare of animals by directing the proceeds of the sale towards animal shelters at the BSPCA and WSD in Mumbai. Curated by Priyasri Patodia, the project emphasizes that art is not merely for visual aesthetics but can also become a medium for compassion and change.
