About the Exibition
Drawing: An Act of Art I is an exhibition curated by Priyasri Patodia centered around the most intimate and foundational act of artistic expression, drawing. This exhibition is dedicated to the capability of an artist’s hand, its physical intimacy, gestures and energy merging with the image itself. Here, the act of drawing becomes not just the basis but transforms into complete and self-sustained works of art.
In a time where through digital tools one can produce or erase images in a few clicks, the hand drawn line becomes an act of resistance. Although digital precision may have its advantages, it cannot replicate the authenticity of the slow process of creating a line that responds to an artist's touch, thoughts, and emotions. Here, drawing asserts itself as a deeply human act which is unmediated, unfiltered and alive.
The exhibition features works of masters and modern visionaries such as Jogen Chowdhury, Sunil Das, Ganesh Haloi, F.N. Souza, Laxma Goud, K.G. Subramanyam, Abanindranath Tagore, Jamini Roy, Ganesh Pyne, and Ramkinkar Baij among many others. Each artist’s work brings a distinct voice to the shared language of lines and forms; and together they reveal the evolution and diversity of drawing across generations.
Drawing: An Act of Art I invites the audience into the space where hand, mind and heart become one, reminding us that the simplest act of drawing enfolds a new world of creativity and expression.
