About the Exibition

Drawing- An Act of Art II curated by Priyasri Patodia, reaffirms the enduring and intimate act of drawing, which presents itself as an independent artistic expression in a period dominated by digital media. Featuring works by 24 senior and emerging Indian artists, including Akbar Padamsee, Jogen Chowdhury, K.G. Subramanyan, T.V. Santhosh, and T.M. Aziz, the exhibition also presents drawings by 12 old masters such as Abanindranath Tagore and Chittaprosad. By tracing the legacy and evolution of lines and forms, the exhibition highlights the relevance of drawing across generations.

Curated to highlight drawing as both a conceptual and physical act, the exhibition explores how even a few simple lines can carry profound emotional and intellectual weight. Unlike the grandeur of painting, drawing is direct, raw, and introspective; often the first burst of an artist's creative energy and sometimes a masterpiece in its own right. As Jogen Chowdhury, exemplifies, the line is more than form, it’s an extension of thought and touch.

Despite digital advancements, drawing remains central in art education, from fine arts to sculpture and ceramics. Yet, it is often underappreciated by the public. This exhibition aims to reintroduce audiences to its unique language and power. For collectors, drawings offer a more affordable entry into the works of masters, without compromising on artistic value.

Ultimately, Drawing - An Act of Art II reaffirms drawing not as a precursor to painting, but as a complete, expressive form that captures the essence of artistic thought: an act of art in its purest form.
