About the Exibition
Site is a word as complex and layered as space, not just physical, but also conceptual, intuitive, and deeply personal. It exists beyond moral, philosophical, or formal boundaries making site specificity a multifaceted idea. Art has always been linked to site; what we now call installations are contemporary expressions of age-old practices, shaped by differing perceptions over time.
This exhibition is an exploration beyond fixed concepts, a free, inherent reading of space as experienced individually by artists. It offers a gratis interpretation of what space means to each creator, emphasizing personal resonance over theoretical constructs.
Set within Priyasri Art Gallery; an unconventional venue with three sides open to the sea; the exhibition invites reflection on space that is both immersive and raw. The gallery's striking architecture, particularly the west-facing wall of full-length French windows, opens directly to the vast seascape, flooding the space with natural light and uninterrupted ocean views.
Each participating artist has engaged with this specific environment over time, allowing the site itself to shape their creative response. The result is not merely art placed in a location, but works that emerge from an intimate, lived experience of place. In Reading the Site, the gallery becomes both context and content where the site is not just a backdrop but a co-creator in the artistic process.
