About the Exibition
Untitled marks the first solo exhibition of Hrushikesh Biswal, a distinctive artist from Odisha who studied at the Baroda School of Art. A former resident of AQ@Priyasri - The Artist Studio, Biswal joined the studio in 2008 alongside contemporaries like Jagganath Mohapatra, Pulak Sanpoi, and Alok Bal. His works have been acquired by major auction houses such as Osian’s and are sought after by serious collectors.
Biswal has steadily gained prominence in the Indian art scene, with a diverse portfolio of exhibitions across India and internationally. His work has been featured at the Kala Ghoda Festival, Bharat Bhawan, Art Konsult, Lalit Kala Akademi, Bhushan International Art Fair (South Korea), Gufa Gallery (Ahmedabad), and the Modi G20 national exhibitions in Baroda and Delhi, among many others.
His art is a fusion of agony and passion, rendered with the precision of a draughtsman and the satire of a caricaturist. Biswal’s forms are solid and tactile, revealing a calm order beneath expressive distortions. His use of primary colours and strong lines creates a visual language that feels raw, almost brutal, yet deeply poetic. Distorted figures reflect not power, but vulnerability, commentaries on identity, love, and emotional complexity.
In earlier works, ornamental patterns and densely filled compositions served as a kind of camouflage with self-inflicted exercises in repetition, masking deeper tensions. Today, his style embraces contradiction and clarity in equal measure.
AQ@Priyasri, founded in 2003 in Vadodara, has played a key role in nurturing emerging talent. The studio’s printmaking facilities, residencies, and mentorship programs have supported artists like Biswal in finding their visual voice, offering them exposure at the affiliated Priyasri Art Gallery in Mumbai and beyond.
