About the Exibition
Priyasri Art Gallery is proud to present a landmark solo exhibition by master modernist Akbar Padamsee, showcasing 110 rare monochrome works in oil, watercolor, and lithograph, created between 1992 and 2017. This exhibition also includes his elusive Schema series, brought to public view after a three-year hiatus.
Titled Where the Lines Fall, the exhibition coincides with the release of a book of the same name, featuring critical essays by renowned art critic and theorist Nancy Adajania and gallery founder Priyasri Patodia. The book contextualizes Padamsee’s artistic journey and includes many rare works being exhibited for the first time.
At 87, Padamsee remains one of India’s most celebrated and enduring modernists. His presence at the exhibition preview will be a special opportunity for collectors and art lovers to meet the artist and have copies of the book signed. The preview will be an exclusive event, while the exhibition will be open to the public from 11th to 25th November 2017. The book will be available for purchase at the gallery.
Where the Lines Fall is more than a solo show—it is a milestone in the gallery’s history and a significant moment in Indian modern art. This follows the success of Padamsee’s last exhibition and book, Past Forward, also presented by Priyasri Art Gallery in 2014. This exhibition not only reaffirms Padamsee’s legacy but also offers rare insight into his lesser-seen works, deepening our understanding of his artistic evolution over the decades.
